Gabion Drainage design

One design alternative for the drainage system within the linear park utilizes a combination of stone basket gabions and a selected few concrete culverts to add support for pedestrian bridges as needed. 

  • Stone filled metal wire baskets

 

  • Fill materials can vary

 

Avantages of stone gabions:

 

  • Reduced erosion on banks

  • Lower cost

  • Aesthetic beauty

  • Permeable so flow can seep through

  • Low maintenance

 

  • Cost around $35 per cubic yard

 

  • Inspections regularly and after large storm

 

 

Disadvantages of stone gabions:

 

  • High velocity flow causes wear and tear

 

  • If any rips in basket it must wholly be replaced
